About
I’m Renee Grenade. I live in Tucson, Arizona, and I make photographs and collages about the Sonoran Desert — the light, the dust, the strange quiet.
I started carrying a camera because the desert kept stopping me in my tracks. A saguaro at dusk. Monsoon clouds stacking up over the mountains. The way the light goes gold and then gone in about ten minutes. I wanted to keep those moments, and then I wanted to make something out of them.
The photographs are what I see out there. The collages are what it feels like in here — torn paper, desert colors, things layered over each other until they make a new kind of sense. I’m still figuring out where the two meet, and honestly that’s the fun part.
